Secondary School Placement

The Director of Secondary School Placement, Stu Rosenwald, has been a member of the Fay faculty since 1981 and the Director of Secondary School Placement since 1990. Over the years, the Fay Placement Office has grown, and the Office now consists of three placement counselors and an administrative assistant. Stu counsels all domestic ninth graders, Kate Pingeon works with eighth grade domestic families who want to pursue secondary school admission, and Drew Carlson advises all international families in the placement process. The Fay Placement Office values its longstanding, close relationships with admission officers from varied secondary schools, and Fay’s placement counselors visit secondary school campuses on a regular basis. Furthermore, each year, admission representatives from more than 70 secondary schools come to Fay to meet with Fay ninth graders and/or Fay placement counselors.

The vast majority of Fay School graduates attend independent secondary schools. Fay placement counselors work with students, their families, their advisors, coaches, and teachers in identifying each student’s needs, strengths, and talents. Starting in the eighth grade and continuing throughout the entire application process, the role of the Placement Office is to give ongoing counsel and guidance in selecting and applying to appropriate schools. Attempting to ensure a good match between each graduating student and a secondary school is the primary objective in placement.
