Arts
We believe that creativity is an essential part of human development. That's why we offer a required arts curriculum, a series of advanced arts electives, and state-of-the-art facilities.
Fay's arts curriculum offers required and elective courses spanning a range of interests. Students in grades 1-7 take art and music classes that meet several times a week; classes in both disciplines develop fundamental skills in a carefully sequenced course of study. Students in grades 8 and 9 can choose from an extensive set of electives in each discipline. The Music Department's offerings include choral groups, orchestral ensembles, jazz band, and our renowned English handbell choir. The Art Department's electives include ceramics, painting, 2-dimensional design, 3-dimensional design, and specialized courses for fundamental or advanced study in visual art. Students can also join School-wide performances - as actors, stage managers, lighting and sound technicians, and set designers. Recent performances include Once Upon a Mattress, Annie, and The Boyfriend.
Our facilities include the Picardi Art Center, a luminous home for the visual arts, and the Harris Events Center, a state-of- the-art performance space. Picardi's three light-infused studios offer space for drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpting; a ceramics room features ten pottery wheels and a kiln; and a darkroom facilitates the photography program. Harris includes a 400-seat auditorium with a spacious stage and an advanced light and sound booth. Additionally, Harris is home to music classrooms, choral and band rooms, individual practice studios, and instrumental storage lockers.
