Athletic Department Mission Statement
Athletics plays an integral part of the Fay School mission to educate the whole child to his/her fullest potential in preparation for a productive and fulfilled life.
Fay School athletics serves as a source of tradition and pride for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and community. We strive to create an environment through physical education and athletics that contributes to the physical, mental, emotional, and social health and development of every student. The program emphasizes selfless dedication, passion, and effort over winning at all costs.
Athletic Department Philosophy
The athletic program of Fay School is a dynamic and integral part of the total educational experience. It provides meaningful learning opportunities not otherwise offered in the classroom curriculum. Athletics plays an important role in character building and the development of moral and social values. It's a mechanism for students to excel in areas of physical and athletic talents and it provides a wholesome educational experience that will nurture the mind, body and spirit. It should assist in developing habits, attitudes, and principles necessary both for ethical competition and successful relationships in society. It also provides our students with life-long lessons for personal growth, such as sportsmanship, team work, ethical behavior, perseverance, commitment, loyalty, self-discipline, pride, responsibility, and leadership skills.
The fundamental purpose of Fay School athletics is to give each student the opportunity to become experienced, skilled, and confident in a variety of athletic areas. Developing health-related fitness, physical competence, and cognitive understanding about physical activity enables student-athletes to adopt healthy and physically active lifestyles.
Because of the value of sports, we provide as many opportunities for participation as possible to our students. We attempt to satisfy both the competitive needs as well as the recreational needs of every student. In order to accomplish this, we offer several different levels of competition in as many sports as possible. Participation in athletics is required during each of the three seasons for every student in grades five through nine. Students may tryout for competitive interscholastic teams or join an intramural team or activity.
