Activities

4 A's of Fay Day Camp:

Fay Day Camp's programs focus on activities that emphasize the development of the whole child. The goal of the program is to promote a safe, educational, and enjoyable learning environment. Within our 4 A's, each camper's experience balances instructional skill development with active participation. The main objective is to create a sense of enthusiasm, while broadening the camper's skill set.

Athletics: At Fay Day Camp, our primary goal is to provide high-quality instruction while also promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and spirit through healthful competition. Sports include soccer, basketball, tennis, ands additional recreational sports and activities.

Aquatics: American Red Cross Swimming instruction is provided daily to all of our campers. Campers are tested and placed in levels based on their ability. Campers swim twice per day: one instructional and one free swim block.

Arts: The creative and performing arts programs features exploration and participation to build self-esteem. Activities include arts and crafts, work with clay, drama, and dance.

Adventure: Our ropes course, designed by Project Adventure® provides great opportunities for team-building, cooperation, and challenge exercises.

Swimming

Fay Day Camp offers a Red Cross-certified swim program staffed by Red Cross-certified instructors. Campers are offered a 40-minute lesson period Monday through Friday, with a free-swim period each afternoon. All campers are tested the first day of each session to determine their ability.

Pool staff are Certified Water Safety Instructors. The program follows strict Red Cross standards, and campers receive cards certified by the Red Cross according to their swimming ability. The ratio of Water Safety Instructors to campers is at a maximum of 1 to 4. The staff strives to provide individualized and professional instruction while ensuring the campers' safety in an atmosphere of fun.

Some children are inexperienced swimmers and are uncomfortable around the water. At the shallow end of the pool there are two large sets of steps on which children can sit. Most campers can stand in the shallow end, which is three feet deep. For many of these children, the primary objective of swimming lessons is to get them feeling comfortable in the water. As a rule, we do not use "wings." We may use "bubbles" for very small, inexperienced swimmers.

Extended Care

Extended care is offered every day of camp except the last Friday of Week 8. Please take the time to plan ahead for your extended care needs. The camp asks parents to sign up for extended care prior to each session as staffing and the purchasing of materials are based on these pre-registrations. Additional fee applies.

Daily Schedule

Drop-off is between 8:45 and 9:00 AM. At 9:00 AM we begin our camp day. The senior counselor in each group takes attendance and goes over the activity schedule for the day. There are three activity periods in the morning and three in the afternoon.

Please provide a brown bag lunch for your child. We refrigerate these lunches for our campers. Fay Camp provides a mid-morning snack. If your child stays for our afternoon extended care program, please send a snack, separate from lunch, that will also be kept refrigerated for your child.

Registration takes place from 8:30 to 9:00 AM on the first morning of each session.

Health Form/Immunization Records

Massachusetts law requires that every camper have a completed health form, including immunization records, on file with the School Nurse on or before the day of arrival. This must be done each year, and the form must be signed by a parent in order for a camper to receive any treatment that may be necessary. We also require that your child have some form of health insurance.

Late Arrival/ Early Pick-up Procedure
All campers arriving late should be brought to the camp office in the Reinke Building where they will be signed in and taken to their group. If you need to pick up your camper(s) early, please send a note or call the camp office. Campers who leave early should be picked up from the camp office and signed out by an authorized pick-up person.

Check-in
Check-in takes place from 8:00 to 9:00 AM on the first day of each session. You must check your child in if you have not attended a previous session.

Drop-off
All campers should be dropped off at the Harlow Circle located on Middle Road. Your child will be greeted by a camp counselor and escorted to his/her group. Unless arrangements have been made for extended care, your child should be dropped off between 8:45 and 9:00 AM.

Pick-up for Campers
All campers should be picked up at the Harlow Circle. Unless arrangements have been made for extended care, your child must be picked up no later than 4:00 PM. Since our activities are scheduled until 3:45 PM, we urge you not to arrive before then to pick up your camper.

The Harlow Circle pick-up area will be blocked off until 3:45 PM. For safety reasons, cars will not be permitted to park or sit idle on Middle Road until the circle opens. If you need to pick up early, please refer to our early pick-up procedure.

Car Pool/Transportation
The Fay School Summer Program does not provide transportation for campers.

Carpool pick-up is at 4:00 PM in Harlow Circle. All carpool children will be brought at that time from their designated pick-up area to the carpool cars parked on Harlow Circle. All drivers of carpools must be authorized pick-up persons for each camper and must display all applicable placards.

Parking
If parents wish to visit the campus during the summer, please park on the Harlow Circle. Cars should not be left in the Harlow Circle during drop-off and pick-up times. Please note that all visitors must check in at the camp office. Campers use the Harlow Field, so please exercise caution when driving through.

What to Bring and Wear
Clothing needs are often dictated by the weather. In general, campers should wear shorts, a shirt, socks, and sneakers. They should also bring:- two bathing suits and two towels- sweatpants and a sweatshirt or light jacket in case of a temperature drop- a bagged lunch Parents of campers who have medicine to take, of any kind, must take the medicine to the Camp Nurse. Please do not give medicine to a staff member or leave it with your child.

Lunch and Snack
Every morning the campers receive a snack, which varies from day to day but includes juice or water and a little something to eat. Campers should bring their own lunch packed in a paper bag labeled with their name and group number. Counselors pick up the lunches at drop-off and take them to the kitchen for refrigeration. At noon, the bags are brought to the lunch area and distributed to the campers.

Open House
Each June, Fay School schedules an Open House where parents can learn more about the summer program and get acquainted with summer staff.
