Vox Inventum

Find your voice.

Throughout their time at Fay, our students participate in Vox Inventum (“Find Your Voice”), a school-wide program developed by our faculty that fosters public speaking and presentation skills, fosters self-advocacy and organizational skills, and emphasizes effort, civility, and kindness.

Vox Inventum is infused into classes across the grades and disciplines, and it is woven into the fabric of daily life at Fay. It includes our formal public speaking program, which begins in third grade. It also includes our system of effort grades, which students receive every two weeks beginning in third grade. It encompasses our homeroom/advisory program, where students hone their study skills and learn how to advocate for themselves in interactions with peers and teachers.

Through the Vox Inventum program, Fay students learn how to identify their intellectual passions and pursue their interests. They practice leadership, whether they’re captaining a sports team, leading a Morning Meeting as student council president, or coordinating a conversation about identity in our Community Connections discussion group. And they learn that manners matter, from looking someone in the eye when they’re speaking to offering a confident handshake.

The foundation for a meaningful life.

Vox Inventum is at the core of our mission to provide the foundation of a meaningful life. We know that the foundational skills of reading, writing, and mathematics are critical, but if you ask a Fay teacher, parent, a secondary school admission officer, or one of our alumni to describe a Fay student, they’ll focus on the additional skills that make a Fay education so unique. Here’s what they’ll say:

• Fay students are exceptionally well prepared. They are incisive thinkers, creative problem solvers, strong writers, and confident public speakers. They have strong study skills and know what they need to do to be successful in and out of the classroom.

• Fay students get involved in their communities, as athletes, artists, musicians, helpers, leaders, and friends. They know how to interact effectively in a world of difference and are curious about the world around them.

• Fay students understand what it means to show character, whether it’s diving into a service project or supporting a friend in need. They understand that manners are important, from small gestures like holding the door for others to clear and respectful communication.

• Most importantly, Fay students love to learn. They embrace intellectual risks and see no limits to what they can achieve, and they find joy in striving to be their best selves. When they graduate from Fay, they are equipped with the foundational tools they will need to live lives of meaning and to make a positive difference in the world.
