Exploring Graphing

This term, Kindergarten students have been building their graphing skills in math. After a field trip to Tougas Farm for apple picking, students conducted an apple taste test to decide their favorite from three varieties: Gala, Granny Smith, and Golden Delicious. Each student placed an apple in the column representing their choice, creating a collaborative apple bar graph.

Graphing introduces young learners to essential math skills such as visually representing data, comparing quantities, sorting and categorizing, and interpreting information.

Recently, students graphed their favorite Thanksgiving foods. They circulated the classroom with worksheets, asking classmates to add their initials next to their top choice—turkey, pie, cranberry sauce, or mashed potatoes. Once everyone had voted, students colored in the bars on their worksheets to create individual graphs showing the class's preferences.

Earlier this month, students also explored graphing by charting the ingredients for their class "witch’s brew," blending creativity with math practice!
