Working at Fay means joining a community of students, faculty, staff, and administrators of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and life experiences who enjoy working and learning together. Our job titles do not reflect all that we do. As an independent day and boarding school with students from Kindergarten through grade nine and an Early Learning Center with children as young as 2.9 years, Fay offers many opportunities to grow professionally and personally as teachers, coaches, mentors, leaders, and contributors to our community.

Employee Benefits

Employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 27.5 hours per week are eligible for employee benefits. Full-time employees (37.5 hours a week) are also eligible to receive 50% tuition remission for their children who are enrolled at Fay School or the Early Learning Center.

  • Available Insurance Programs

    Health Insurance is available through Blue Cross Blue Shield New England and includes a choice of HMO plans: bronze, silver, and gold. Fay School pays a percentage of the premiums for each plan.

    Dental Insurance is available through Dental Blue Select plan. Fay School pays 50% of the premium.

    Vision Plan: Eligible employees have the opportunity to participate in the School's Vision Insurance Plan through VSP Vision Care.

    Short Term Disability: after one year of employment, Fay School provides coverage of 60% to 100% of the employee's salary, depending on years of service, for up to six months.

    Long Term Disability: LTD is available after one year of service and provides coverage of 60% of an employee's salary up to a maximum of $10k per month. Fay School pays 100% of the LTD premium.

    Group Life Insurance: Life insurance is available after one year of service. The benefit is equivalent to two times the employee's annual salary, up to a maximum of $200k. Fay School pays 100% of the life insurance premium.

    This link leads to the Machine Readable Files that are made available in response to the Federal Transparency in Coverage Rule and includes negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between health plans and healthcare providers.  The machine readable files are formatted to allow researchers, regulators, and application developers to more easily access and analyze data.

  • 125 Flexible Spending Account

    Employees may contribute to a 125 Flexible Spending Account using pre-tax dollars to pay for uninsured health care and dependent care services.

  • 403(b) Retirement Plan

    Fay School contributes 8% of an employee's salary towards his or her USI Retirement Account after the first year of employment. Employees are also required to make a minimum contribution equal to 2% of their annual salary. The one-year 'wait' period is waived for new employees who are joining Fay from another school or not-for-profit organization. Employees may make voluntary contributions from their date of hire.

  • Paid Time Off

    Vacation
    Faculty receive paid time off during Fay School vacations and recognized school holidays. Staff receive paid time off based on years of service. 

    Personal Days
    Faculty are eligible for two Personal Days and staff are eligible for one Personal Day each year.

    Sick Leave
    Employees are eligible for paid sick leave as follows:
    Full-time faculty - up to 7 days per year
    Full-time staff - up to 10 days per year
    Part-time faculty and staff who are scheduled to work at least 27.5 hours per week area eligible for paid sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
    Employees whose work schedule is less than 27.5 hours per week may be eligible for paid sick leave.

  • No-Fee Extended Day for Enrolled Children

    Fay School Extended Day is available at no charge to full-time employees' children who are enrolled in Fay School.

  • Tuition Remission for Children of Faculty and Staff

    Full-time employees are eligible for 50% tuition remission for their children who are  enrolled in Fay School, the Early Learning Center, and Auxiliary Programs - including after-school clubs, summer camp, and vacation camps.

  • Additional Benefits for Employees and their Families

    The campus fitness facilities, outdoor pools, and outdoor ice rink are available for use by employees and their families when not being used by school programs. 

    Employees are welcome to take out lunch from the dining room each day when school or camps are in session. Faculty and staff who are scheduled for lunch duty eat in the dining room with students. 

    The employee Wellness Program provides resources and many opportunities for employees to participate in wellness activities. Employees are invited to join a Wellness Team for some friendly (and healthy) competition among colleagues.

  • Special Leaves

    Employees may be eligible for special leaves including parental leave, medical leave, family care leave, and active military duty leave.

  • Employee Assistance Program

    The School offers an employee assistance program that provides a variety of support services including legal consultations, financial planning, mental health counseling, nutritionist advising, and more. The benefit is available to full and part-time employees, as well as their family members over the age of 18.

Professional Development

Fay faculty and staff are always seeking to improve their skills and stay up-to-date on best practices in elementary and middle school education. To that end, we have a robust budget for professional development and support our employees' development.

  • Fay supports employee attendance at conferences and workshops - faculty and staff attend a range of events every year, including NAIS, AISNE, TABS, AISAP, and EMA.

  • Curriculum Innovation Grants are available to Fay School teachers for the purpose of developing new curriculum. These grants support curriculum-related work, typically in the summer months, that lies beyond the scope of faculty members’ normal professional duties.

  • The Faculty Enrichment Fund provides opportunities for faculty members to pursue areas of professional growth that will enhance the classroom experience.

  • Each new member of faculty is assigned a Teacher Mentor who provides guidance and information during the first year of teaching at Fay. Mentors reach out to new faculty before the opening of the new school year to ease the transition and answer any questions.
